Mark Copeland grew up in suburban Detroit and traces his radio roots back to college radio in the 80’s, despite never having big hair. He started professionally in Lansing before stints in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Mexico and back home in Michigan. As the WKRP in Cincinnati theme song says “Town to town, up and down the dial”. Mark has worked in several different formats including Alternative, Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Sports and the Adult Rock you hear on ann arbor’s 107one.
Total Musichead might be a good description with music trivia being a specialty. Mark can remember random trivial music facts from years ago but can’t remember which day is garbage day at his house or where he left his Tigers hat. Other than hosting mornings on 107one, Mark is heard on two specialty shows. Under The Radar Radio airs 7 9pm every Sunday and focuses on new and indie music that hasn’t broken through to the mainstream yet. Sonic Bliss is on from 9 till Midnight every Sunday, with 3 hours if chillout music that can be heard in Michigan, Virginia, Pennsylvania and even New Zealand.
Mark once did a phone test for VH-1’s Rock & Roll Jeopardy and nailed every question, earning a slot on the show, but was denied that spot on because working in the radio industry was deemed an “unfair advantage”. Mark also once worked a job where literally had to identify songs within 8 seconds. He got paid for playing Name That Tune.
Mark joined 107one soon after its launch in 2004 and has worked there ever since, becoming Program Director in May 2023. Other than being a big fan of music (and several kinds of it), Mark is a huge baseball fan (Detroit Tigers all the way) and likes all the seasons except Winter (two weeks around Christmas is enough).
