David Byrne has another project headed to Broadway.

Here Lies Love, the Imelda Marcos-inspired musical created with Fatboy Slim, will start previews at the Broadway Theater in New York City on June 17th and officially open on July 20th.

The musical first launched at the Public Theatre in New York City in 2013 and was staged in London and Seattle over the following four years. Those versions were all staged with a standing room only audience. The Broadway Theater will be renovated for the production. Variety reports that producers will “transform the venue’s traditional proscenium floor space into a dance club environment, where audiences will stand and move with the actors. A wide variety of standing and seating options will be available throughout the theater’s reconstructed space”

This is Byrne’s second Broadway production in the past four years — American Utopia opened in 2019 and had two different runs, with the second one closing in April 2022.
