Adele’s Opening Night In Vegas A Smash Success

Despite plenty of pre-show jitters, which she shared with her fans on social media, Adele made it through weekend one of her Weekends With Adele Las Vegas residency without losing it, though there were a number of tearful, emotional moments for her on opening night.

The residency had initially been set to start in January, before Adele shut it down at the last minute because she felt the production “wasn’t right” and lacked the intimacy she wanted. Ten months later, she seems to have gotten just that.

She told the crowd, “It looks just like what I imagined it would look like, and it’s perfect…I’m so scared and I’m so nervous, but I’m so happy.”

From time to time the intimacy burst into full bore Vegas spectacle, including during her opening number, “Hello,” when the floor-to-ceiling video monitors were revealed and during “Set Fire to the Rain,” when using pyrotechnics the audience got to experience what the song’s title promises.

Backed by six musicians, three backing singers and a 24-piece string section, Adele performed 20 songs in her two hours on stage that included more songs from her breakout 21 album than from the more recent 25 and 30.

Weekends With Adele will run weekends through March 25th at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
