Second Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert Wrap-up

The second Taylor Hawkins tribute concert, staged Tuesday at The Forum in Los Angeles, saw Foo Fighters change up a few things from the first concert in London earlier this month.

Joan Jett and Travis Barker of Blink-182 joined the band to do “Cherry Bomb” and “Bad Reputation.”

Hawkins’ cover band Chevy Metal were joined by Yes singer Jon Davidson for “Owner of a Lonely Heart” and Kesha for a take on “Heroes” by David Bowie.

Hawkins’ other band Coattail Riders were once again fronted by Justin Hawkins of The Darkness and did that band’s “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” plus Mark King of Level 42 led them through his band’s “Something About You.”

Mark RonsonAndrew Wyatt of Miike Snow and Dave Grohl teamed up for a cover of “Right Down the Line” by Gerry Rafferty.

Wolfgang Van Halen led Grohl, Justin Hawkins and Josh Freese through two Van Halen songs — “Hot for Teacher,” which they did in London, and “Panama.” (Wolfgang tweeted about the song after the show. He posted a screenshot of his comment last year “I honor my dad by existing and doing what I do every day. I’m not playing ‘Panama’ for you guys” and captioned it “Twice.”)

Joe ElliottPhil Collen and Rick Savage of Def Leppard and Pat Wilson of Weezer joined the Foos to do Leppard’s “Rock of Ages” and “Photograph,” which also featured Miley Cyrus.

Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee of Motley Crue plus Derek Day of Classless Act led the Foos through versions of “Live Wire” and “Home Sweet Home.”

Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Elliott Easton of The Cars and the Foos did two Cars songs — “Shake It Up” and “Just What I Needed.”

Heart’s Nancy Wilson and Pink were backed by the Foos on “Barracuda.”

Alanis Morissette, who had Hawkins in her Jagged Little Pill band, and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers joined the Foos to do “You Oughta Know.”

Sebastian BachLars Ulrich of Metallica and the Foos joined with Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler to do “Supernaut” and “Paranoid.”

Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee of Rush did the same songs as the London show, but were joined by Chad Smith for “Working Man” and Danny Carey of Tool on “YYZ.”

There was also a Nirvana and Soundgarden supergroup of sorts, with Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron joining forces with Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear to do two Soundgarden songs — “The Day I Tried to Live” and “Black Hole Sun” — with Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless on vocals.

Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen did the same set as London, but with Pink on lead vocals on “Somebody to Love.”

The Foos closing set was slightly different, with Matt Cameron on drums for “Low,” Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine on “This Is a Call,” Pat Wilson on “The Sky is a Neighborhood” and a cover of “Creep” with Dave Chapelle on vocals, Taylor Hawkins’ son Shane on two songs, “My Hero” and “I’ll Stick Around,” and a full band version of “Everlong” to close with Chad Smith on the kit. (And Paul McCartney didn’t show up for this set.)

The sets by The James Gang, Them Crooked Vultures, Stewart Copeland of The Police and Violet Grohl were the same as London. Proceeds from the show went to MusiCares and Music Support UK.
