Elvis Costello’s Rough Night In Liverpool

Elvis Costello took to Facebook to apologize for the sound problems that marred his first show in his late mother’s hometown since her death last year.

He wrote of Friday’s concert: “To say it was my worst nightmare that things would go so badly wrong after we took the stage, would be a massive understatement. The Imposters and I had rehearsed at length in the afternoon to prepare a unique setlist for the Liverpool show. The sound was perfectly in balance…”

He then explained how he and the band were “blissfully unaware” of any sound issues during the first part of the show. Unfortunately, they were there and persisted while the band’s sound engineer worked to fix the problems. He just wasn’t able to locate what turned out to be a “computer driven” glitch.

Costello said he tends to get “a little testy” when people start yelling at him “at work,” and apologized for his “sharp and rather graceless reaction,” fueled by “adrenaline and emotion.”

Elvis closed out his Facebook book with this: “I’m sorry if you felt affronted or left early to demanded a refund but you should appreciate that the excellent Philharmonic Hall staff, had no more control over the situation than we did, on the stage.

For those who stuck with us, I hope you took something out of the night. Should our paths not cross again, it’s been nice knowing you, well, everyone that is except that drunken **** who tried to pick a fight with me on the doorstep of my hotel. He can **** right off.
