Rarities from the Cure, Tom Petty and Beck Highlight 2021’s Record Store Day

Rarities from The Cure, Beck and Tom Petty are among the highlights of this year’s Record Store Day.

The event has been spread into two Record Store Day Drops on June 12th and July 17th. Here’s some highlights — the full list is at RecordStoreDay.com.

June 12th:

Beck – Hyperspace (2020) LP. This vinyl reissue features two additional songs, “Dark Places (Soundscape)” and “I Am The Cosmos (42420),” plus new mixes of “Star,” “Hyperspace,” “See Through” and “Die Waiting.”

The Cure – Faith LP Picture Disc. Their third studio album marks its 40th anniversary this year and gets a picture disc for the very first time.

Grateful Dead – Olympia Theatre, Paris, France 5/3/72 6-LP. This box set is one that shows the band’s legendary Europe ‘72 Tour.

Haim – “Gasoline” 7-inch single. The B-side is the version of “Gasoline” with Taylor Swift.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Angel Dream (Songs and Music from the Motion Picture She’s the One) LP. This is a “special reimagining” of the album She’s The One to celebrate its 25th anniversary of its original release. This version doesn’t have the four soundtrack songs included in the Wildflowers & All The Rest reissue. Instead there are four unreleased tracks — two Petty originals (“105 Degrees” and “One of Life’s Little Mysteries”), a cover of JJ Cale’s “Thirteen Days”, and the instrumental “French Disconnection.”

The Police – Live! Vol. 1: Boston 1979 2-LP and Live! Vol. 2: Atlanta 1983 2 LP. The group’s 1995 live compilation is broken into two vinyl sets for this reissue.

Keith Richards – “Wicked As It Seems (Live)” 7-inch. This has two previously unreleased live tracks from Richards and The X-Pensive Winos.

The Rolling Stones – Hot Rocks (50th Anniversary Edition) 2-LP. The band’s 1971 best of compilation gets remastered and upgraded packing.

Steely Dan – Two Against Nature, Everything Must Go LP. It’s the first vinyl release for the duo’s early 2000s comeback albums.

Tears for Fears – Live At Massey Hall 2-LP. Taken from the their Songs from The Big Chair tour, this double album captures the band live in Canada in 1985.

U2 – Fire (40th Anniversary Edition) 12-inch single. This features three version of “Fire” from U2’s second album October.

Warren Zevon – Preludes 2-LP. This is a reissue of a 2007 collection of rarities.

July 17th:

Bastille – Vs. (Other People’s Heartache, Pt. III) 12-inch Picture Disc. This compiles various remixes.

Matt Bellamy – Cryosleep LP. The Muse frontman compiles many of the solo recordings he released over the past year.

The Clash – If Music Could Talk 2-LP. This is a 1980 interview album with the band that was originally available as a promotional LP for U.S. radio ahead of the release of their fourth album Sandinista!

The Cure – Wild Mood Swings 2-LP Picture Disc. The band’s tenth studio album marks its 25th anniversary this year with this reissue.

Dire Straits – Encores EP. This four-song live EP was originally released in 1993, following the live album On the Night.

Bob Dylan – “Jokerman” / “I And I” Remixes 12-inch Single. It features two reggae remixes each of “Jokerman” and “I And I” by Doctor Dread.

Pearl Jam – Alive 12-inch and cassette. The first single from Ten gets reissued for its 30th anniversary and includes three B-sides.

John Prine – Live At The Other End, December 1975 2-CD and 4-LP. This is a live album recorded in New York City.

Queen + Adam Lambert, Freddie Mercury – Live Around the World / Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow LP and 7-inch single. This includes four tracks from the Live Around The World album and one unreleased live track, plus a bonus pink 7-inch single of Mercury’s “Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow.”

Ramones – Triple J Live at the Wireless Capitol Theatre, Sydney, Australia, July 8, 1980 LP. This is a previously unreleased concert.

St Paul & The Broken Bones – Half the City Live LP. This was recorded in the summer of 2020 at Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham, Alabama.
