The Lumineers Cover a Johnny Cash Song for a Third Man Records Release

The Lumineers are covering Johnny Cash as part of a new Third Man Records Vault package.

The upcoming release, the latest installment in the Jack White-founded label’s subscription service, includes a seven-inch vinyl single featuring the folk rockers putting their spin on a previously unreleased song from the country legend, called “Pretty Pictures in My Mind.”

The single will accompany a recording of a 1973 Cash concert in Los Angeles on vinyl. To receive the package, you need to sign up for the Third Man Records Vault by July 31.

“Pretty Pictures in My Mind” was culled from Cash’s archives of poems, lyrics and other written works. Cash’s son John Carter Cash previously collected a selection of those pieces for a 2018 album called Johnny Cash: Forever Words, which featured contributions from Chris CornellElvis Costello and Kacey Musgraves, among others.

In addition to its inclusion in the Third Man Records Vault package, The Lumineers’ take on “Pretty Pictures in My Mind” will be released on a forthcoming second volume of Forever Words.
