Fountains of Wayne: Schlesinger Hospitalized for Coronavirus

Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne is in a hospital in intensive care for the coronavirus. But he is not in a coma, which a fan Twitter account claimed overnight.

Schlesinger’s lawyer, Josh Grier, told Variety, “He’s very sick and is heavily sedated, as are all people on ventilators, but no one has used the word ‘coma’ to me.” Grier added that Schlesinger has been in an upstate New York hospital for over a week and is receiving excellent medical care and that doctors were reluctant to make predictions because so much about the virus remains unknown.

Besides his work with Fountains of Wayne and his other band Ivy, Schlesinger is a Grammy winner for his work on A Stephen Colbert Christmas and an Emmy winner for his songs on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. He’s was nominated for an Oscar for the title song to That Thing You Do in 1997 and a Tony in 2008 for Best Musical for Cry-Baby.

A longtime fan of The Monkees, he produced and helped write a pair of songs for the 2016 release Good Times!, which featured vocals from all four Monkees — including using archived recordings from Davy Jones, who’d died four years earlier. Micky Dolenz tells us exclusively, “I am devastated. Not only is he one of the most talented people I have ever worked with, he is a most wonderful person. Stay strong Adam!”
