The Rolling Stones: New Album and Making Stew Out of Soup

In 2015, The Rolling Stones went into the studio to begin work on a new album.  But instead of original songs, which was the plan, they ended up doing covers of blues songs with the result being Blue & Lonesome. Since then, they’ve been working on-and-off on a new album, but Mick Jagger says it’s still not done.

Mick Jagger: “I want it to be a great album. You know, we’ve been working on it maybe not as hard as we should have been. But, I mean that touring is very important and though we’ve been working on the album the touring took precedent I think. And we got a reissue of Goats Head Soup with a couple of extra tracks. So I’m trying to finish off those extra tracks that were done at the time.”

But Keith Richards is OK with the band spending more time on the road than in the studio.

“Things are going along. As I said, there’s no rush here. But we have some interesting tracks in the can and we’re kicking them along. Seeing how it goes. But, I think at the moment the main focus is on the road. Got to get the road going.”

When the Stones hit the road this spring, you’ll notice Keith not doing something.

“I’ve given up smoking — since October. Done that, been there. I’ve given it up.”

The 2020 leg of The Rolling Stones’ No Filter tour starts on May 8th in San Diego.
