Brandi Carlile was a big winner at the Grammy Awards Sunday night, live from Staples Center in Los Angeles.
She got shut out on Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year, but she did sweep the roots and Americana categories, grabbing Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song for “The Joke” and Best Americana Album for By the Way, I Forgive You.
Kacey Musgraves took home the top honor at the 2019 Grammys, winning album of the year for Golden Hour along with three other nods: best country album, best country song for “Space Cowboy” and best country solo performance for “Butterflies.”
In other top categories, Childish Gambino snagged four Grammys including song of the year and record of the year for “This Is America”; Cardi B claimed best rap album for Invasion of Privacy; Dua Lipa won best new artist; and Drake claimed best rap song for “God’s Plan.”
Lady Gaga earned three Grammy Awards, winning best pop solo performance for “Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?),” best song written for visual media for “Shallow” and best pop duo/group performance for the same A Star Is Born song (shared with Bradley Cooper).
Beck grabbed Best Alternative Music Album for Colors and won Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for Colors as one of the more than dozen credited engineers on the project. He wasn’t on hand to pick up either award.
St. Vincent and Jack Antonoff of Bleachers won Best Rock Song for “Masseduction,” and St. Vincent revealed that it was the first “thank you speech” she’d ever given in her career. The Masseduction album also won Best Recording Package.
