Celebrities React To Dolores O’Riordan’s Death

Musicians — and a late-night talk-show host — have reacted to the death of Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan at age 46.

James Corden: “I once met Dolores O’Riordan when I was 15. She was kind and lovely, I got her autograph on my train ticket and it made my day. She had the most amazing voice and presence. So sorry to hear that she’s passed away today.”

Hozier: “My first time hearing Dolores O’Riordan’s voice was unforgettable. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of rock. I’d never heard somebody use their instrument in that way. Shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, thoughts are with her family.”

Foster the People (Mark Foster): “Shocked and heartbroken over Dolores O’Riordan’s death. The Cranberries were pinnacle in showing me that it was possible to fully embrace masculine and feminine energy in one cohesive sound. She was a true pioneer.”

Ingrid Michaelson: “I listened to The Cranberries up in my bedroom full blast angry at my parents and the world scream-singing into my pillow. I’m so saddened to hear about Dolores O’Riordan’s passing.”

Matt Nathanson: “Very sad news. What a voice! RIP Dolores O’Riordan.”

Kodaline (Irish band): “Absolutely shocked to hear about the passing of Dolores O’Riordan! @The_Cranberries gave us our first big support when we toured with them around France years ago! Thoughts are with her family and friends.”

Duran Duran: “We are crushed to hear the news about the passing of Dolores O’Riordan. Our thoughts go out to her family at this terrible time.”

Liz Phair: “Devastated for fans and her family — Dolores O’Riordan had such an exquisite voice, so distinctive and defining of an era. She would have continued to be a rare musical treasure late into a long life.”

Josh Groban: “Nooooo! Have always adored her songs and voice.”

Irish President Michael Higgins: “Dolores O’Riordan and The Cranberries had an immense influence on rock and pop music internationally… To all those who follow and support Irish music, Irish musicians and the performing arts, her death will be a big loss.”

Mike Mills of R.E.M.: “Sad and shocked to hear this. We enjoyed playing with, and listening to, the Cranberries and Dolores’ amazing voice. R.I.P. Dolores.”

Halsey: “Heartbreaking. Dolores O’Riordan was a massive influence for me. I grew up listening to The Cranberries with my mother and learned so much about having an unconventional singing voice. Dolores taught me how to use my voice in a manner that was emotive, even if I wasn’t classically skilled. That people will love it when you MEAN what you SAY. Her voice was beautiful to me. And she was a fierce BADASS trailblazing woman in the rock landscape. (I also learned a thing or two about changing my hair every week it seems). Always an inspiration to me and I’m devastated to hear about her death. Rest In Peace, you were far too young.”
