Paul Simon: Special August Shows in Hawaii

Paul Simon will play a pair of concerts on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

Though the legendary singer-songwriter has given up touring, this is one of the special events he hinted that would get him back before an audience.

His August 13 and 14th shows at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion benefit local environmental organizations. Having spent time on Maui, Paul was inspired to assist the Auwahi Forest Restoration Project and Kua‘āina Ulu ‘Auamo (known as KUA).

These will be Simon’s first shows ever on Maui — and first in the 50th state in 51 years, since Simon and Garfunkel played Honolulu’s then-Blaisdell Arena in 1968. These shows follow his appearance at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco on August 11th.

Tickets go on sale Saturday online at MauiArts.org.

Simon is performing this week too, as he does a short set Wednesday night in New York at former New York Yankees pitcher David Cone‘s foundation fundraiser.
