Elvis Costello, Carole King: Old Co-Write Out Today

A song written by two members of the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame finally gets released Friday, more than 20 years after they first conceived and demoed it.

It’s titled “Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter” and it’s on Elvis Costello and the Imposters new album, Look Now. His co-writer on it is Carole King. They wrote it together shortly after Costello collaborated with another ’60s songwriting great, Burt Bacharach, but that apparently had nothing to do with why they decided to write together. The two recently told The New York Times that it came about because the two “kept running into each other at a Japanese restaurant in Manhattan.”
