Record Store Day: U2, Weezer, Dave Matthews Top List

The full list of the over 150 Record Store Day Black Friday releases set for November 23rd is out. Here are some selected highlights.

Borns – Live at Amoeba Music Hollywood LP – This was recorded at the record store on May 9th of this year.

The Byrds – Sweetheart of the Rodeo (Legacy Edition) four-LP set – The expanded version of the classic 1968 country rock album gets its first vinyl pressing.

Eric Clapton – Happy Xmas 12-inch single – This has two tracks not on his upcoming holiday album.

Sheryl Crow – Tuesday Night Music Club double LP – Her debut album gets its first vinyl release in the U.S.

Chris Cornell – “When Bad Does Good” 7-inch single – This is backed by Temple of the Dog‘s “Stargazer (Live at the Paramount).”

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds – Prism Coffeehouse – Charlottesville, VA four-LP set; Dave Matthews Band – DMBLive 2.22.94 Trax – Charlottesville, VA four-LP set – It’s the first vinyl versions for these live releases.

Garbage – “Destroying Angels” 7-inch single – The A-side is a song co-written with Exene Cervenka and John Doe of X, with the B-side a cover of “Starman” by David Bowie.

Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band – Almost Acoustic CD and double LP – This long out-of-print 1988 live album finally gets reissued.

Goo Goo Dolls – The Audience Is That Way (The Rest of the Show) [Live], Volume 2 LP – It’s the first vinyl pressing of their recent live release.

Grateful Dead – Playing in the Band, Seattle, WA 5/21/74 LP – This version of “Playing in the Band” is the longest uninterrupted Grateful Dead song ever recorded, clocking in at 47 minutes long! It’s split over the two sides.

Hozier – Nina Cried Power EP 12-inch – It’s the first physical release of this EP.

Ray LaMontagne – Spotify Singles 7-inch – This has live versions of “Such a Simple Thing” and a cover of “Blue Canadian Rockies.”

Lake Street Dive – Freak Yourself Out EP 10-inch – This has five songs recorded during the Free Yourself Up sessions.

Manchester Orchestra – The Black Miles Demos 12-inch – There’s six demos of songs that later appeared on A Black Mile to the Surface.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Catch a Fire LP – A 45th anniversary edition of the album comes in a replica of the original “Zip-O Lighter” jacket.

Paul McCartney – “I Don’t Know”/”Come on to Me” 7-inch – This is a limited edition, hand-numbered, one-time pressing of two tracks from Egypt Station.

Phish – Slip Stitch and Pass double LP – The band’s second official live album gets its first vinyl release.

Ramones  Live in Glasgow December 19, 1977 double LP – This live set was originally released in 2017 as part of the Rocket to Russia 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

Keith Richards – Run Rudolph Run (40th Anniversary) 12-inch EP – This has two non-holiday tracks on the B-side — “The Harder They Come” and “Pressure Drop.”

Sting and Shaggy – “Skank Up (Oh Lawd)” and “Oh Carolina/We’ll Be Together (Live)” 7-inch – This features a new song from the unlikely duo, plus a live mash-up.

Stone Temple Pilots – Live 2018 LP – A live album recorded during the band’s 2018 tour featuring new lead singer Jeff Gutt.

Talking Heads – Remain in Light LP – The band’s 1980 album is back in print on red vinyl.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Box Set 5 LP – This has three albums making their vinyl debut in the U.S. — FearDulcinea and Acoustic Dance Party.

U2 – Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me 12-inch single – There’s a remastered version of the 1995 song from Batman Forever along with “The Gotham Experience Remix” with vocals by Gavin Friday and Arcade Fire’s Regine Chassagne.

Violent Femmes – Permanent Record: The Very Best of Violent Femmes double LP – The first vinyl pressing of the 2005 collection.

Weezer – “Africa” 7-inch shaped picture disc – Yes, the single does look like the continent.
