Brandi Carlile paid tribute to Aretha Franklin on Friday at the Greek Theater in L.A. by bringing out My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James to duet with her on “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man” and “Respect.”

Carlile told the crowd, “We lost the Queen of Soul yesterday. She’s in paradise today, and we’re about to attempt a tribute.”

Carlile’s opening act, Darlingside, and her vocal coach — who she introduced as “the guy who made me stop drinking whiskey” — added backing vocals on the songs.
