Phish are Thrown a Curveball

Phish were forced to cancel their Curveball festival, set to takes place Friday through Sunday in Watkins Glen, New York, due to the impact of flooding.

The New York State health department announced on Thursday that due to the severe flooding that occurred in Schuyler County over the past week, the local water treatment plant that services water to Watkins Glen has been contaminated and the water supply is not safe for human consumption. Fans that were already onsite were welcome to stay overnight, but the campgrounds will close at noon tomorrow (Friday). Refund info will be coming soon.

Phish, who were told the news just before they were to soundcheck on Thursday afternoon, issued a statement that said, “We are still in shock. The entire site is already set up and ready to go after literally months of work by our beloved hardworking crew, many of whom have been here for weeks. Our families are here, our gear is set, our tents are up. We keep waiting for someone to come over and tell us that there is a solution, and that the festival can go on.  Unfortunately, it is not possible.”
