Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words — like the ones of Amy Winehouse that appear in a new book from a photographer who knew her well.

Blake Wood put together the 150-page Amy WInehouse from both posed and candid shots he took over the last four years of the singer’s life. He tells Billboard, “This is about changing the narrative of who she was, versus the narrative that they created in the press. I think that people tend to think with celebrities and especially women, they focus on the negative instead of celebrating the strengths. And she had so many strengths. I want people to see that light that she was and just let go of the rest.”
