Gin Blossoms: First Album in Eight Years Out Today

Gin Blossoms are back with a new album today.

Mixed Reality is the Arizona band’s first new recording in eight years, the sixth of their career and third since they reunited in 2002. The track “Break” was posted on YouTube yesterday. Gin Blossoms are on the road and will be playing shows throughout the summer.

Singer Robin Wilson tells Billboard that with “Break,” he “wanted to write something that was like a Tom Petty song, that everyone could relate to.”

Wilson also reveals in Billboard that he expects to tour with The Smithereens early next year as the replacement for the late Pat DiNizio. Wilson says that he knew Pat, but his relationship with the others began when he was asked to sing at the January tribute concert they put together. “It’s almost like there’s some gravity or some sort of natural physical force in the cosmos that we all kind of wound up working together. It’s a great surprise to have it come along like this.” He stresses that Gin Blossoms remain his first priority.
