Pearl Jam: Mike McCready Honored in Seattle

Mike McCready became the latest recipient of MusiCares’ Stevie Ray Vaughan Award at the Showbox in Seattle on Thursday.

The Pearl Jam guitarist was honored at the organization’s Concert for Recovery, the proceeds of which support MusiCares’ addiction-recovery programs. Guns n’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan introduced McCready and told his old friend that “Whenever I see you playing the guitar, I see the madness and beauty of an addict being set free.”

Among the participants in the musical tribute to McCready were Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili PeppersMike Ness of Social DistortionNancy Wilson of Heart, members of pre-Pearl Jam bands and other colleagues. McCready played guitar with many of these musical friends.
