Scott Hutchinson Of Frightened Rabbit Found Dead

Police found the body of Scott Hutchinson of Frightened Rabbit, two days after he went missing.

The BBC reports that the body was found at Port Edgar marina near South Queensferry, Scotland Thursday night and Hutchinson’s family confirmed it was him in a statement released Friday morning. They wrote, “As a family, we are utterly devastated with the tragic loss of our beloved Scott. Despite his disappearance, and the recent concerns over his mental health, we had all remained positive and hopeful that he would walk back through the door, having taken some time away to compose himself.” Hutchinson’s bandmates have yet to release a statement on his passing.

The 36 year-old singer was reported missing in the early hours of Wednesday and was last seen leaving the Dakota Hotel in nearby South Queensferry. Hutchinson was known to have issues with depression and after a series of tweets on Tuesday that ended with “I’m away now, thanks,” his bandmates and family asked fans for help in finding him.

Frightened Rabbit released six albums since the band formed in 2003, the last being Painting of a Panic Attack in 2016.

Frightened Rabbit have issued a statement.  The group wrote, “There are no words to describe the overwhelming sadness and pain that comes with the death of our beloved Scott, but to know he is no longer suffering brings us some comfort. Reading messages of support and hope from those he has helped through his art has helped immensely, and we encourage you to continue doing this. He will be missed by all of us and his absence will always be felt, but he leaves a legacy of hope, kindness and color that will forever be remembered and shared.”

A number of artists have commented on Hutchinson’s death as well:

Frank Turner: “What a life. What a shining, beautiful life. I remember Scott giving great Scottish hugs, cracking jokes, apologizing for being drunk, always being kind. He lit up the sky with his voice, his songs, his heart, and I will forever be in awe of his genius.”

Aaron Dessner of The National: “Will have a hard time thinking about anything for a while but this beautiful man and the songs he leaves behind…songs which explore the depths of human despair with such poetry. I hope they ultimately shine a brighter light on mental issues and how precious, fragile and ephemeral life is.”

Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol: “Thank you Scott for every extraordinary song you ever wrote and for the times we shared. Your music brought light to the world and always will. So much love to all your family, bandmates and close friends. I am so deeply sorry for their loss. The world is less today without you Scott.”

Alt-J: “We are deeply saddened by the news of our labelmate Scott Hutchison, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. In the U.K., you can call the Samaritans on 116 123. In the U.S., the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 1-800-273-8255. You are never alone.”
